JULY 17, 2017 - CHICO, CA: The 2017 GWL All Star game and festivities are only a week away.
The Chico Heat will kick off the event on Monday, July 24th at 12:30pm for an All-Star Game luncheon. This will be held at the Chico Elks Lodge and a limited number of tickets will be made available to the public. Special guest, Major League Hall of Famer Pat Gillick will be in attendance and former Heat head coach and MLB pitcher Charlie Kerfeld will be the guest speaker. There will be a team meet and greet and autograph session following lunch. Tickets may be purchased at online at chicoheat.com or at the retail shop located at 1722 Mangrove. $25 for single tickets or $150 for a table of (8) eight which is a $50 savings.
The gates of Nettleton Stadium will open at 3:30pm for fans to watch batting practice. Promptly at 5:15pm we will begin the Great West League Homerun Derby featuring the league’s top power hitters. Each of the (6) six teams will have one slugger participate and they will have 4 minutes to hit as many homeruns as possible. After the first round the top two advance to the finals with a sudden death tie breaker if needed.
Last year, the All-Star Game was played in Medford, OR where the league’s best players were taken from each team and divided into North vs South rosters. This year, the All-Star game will offer fans a bit of a twist as the 2017 Chico Heat will face the best players from each of the five other teams in what the league has coined a “Chico Heat vs. the League” match-up.
“We wanted to give our fans in Chico an opportunity to see their home team take on the most talented players in the league and quite frankly some of the best baseball prospects in the country” said Heat GM Hunter Hampton.
The official pre-game ceremony will begin at 6:40pm with the introduction of this year’s All-Stars followed by the National Anthem. First pitch will be promptly at 7:05pm.
In the days leading up to the All-Star game, parents and fans will have the opportunity to bid on one of two Batboy/Batgirl spots: one for the Chico Heat and one for the League team. Proceeds from this bid process will go entirely to the Boys and Girls Club of North Valley. Stay tuned to www.ChicoHeat.com for bidding details.
